Sun Joe SWJ701E 18 Inch 14 Amp Electric Chain Saw

This Sun Joe 14 Amp Electric Chain Saw is perfect for the majority of all homeowners. It can be used to cut limbs from trees or to cut tree trunks into manageable lengths of wood to be used in fireplaces, wood burning stoves, and in grills.

14 Amp Electric Chain Saw

This electric powered chainsaw weighs less than ten pounds so the majority of all people can use it safely. If a saw is too heavy your arms will quickly become fatigued and you will not have the proper control of the machine. With this light weight machine you will have control at all times, and be able to finish the job without stopping to rest your arms.

Things I Love About This 14 Amp Electric Chain Saw

I love to read electric and gas chainsaw reviews to see what things that other saw owners like the most about the equipment they have. That is why I have decided to include a listing of the features that I love on this saw so that everyone can see what features I found to b e the most useful.

Automatic Oiler

The automatic lubrication of the bar and chain stops damages to the saw because of human error. When you see a chainsaw for sale you want to look at the detailed description of that saw and make sure that it has an automatic oiler.

Older saws did not have automatic oilers. If the person forgot to dispense the oil; onto the bar and chain then the bar and chain could become too hot and be permanently damaged. Automatic oilers help to prevent damage so your equipment works for a longer period of time, and does a better job.

Hand Guard

A hand guard helps during a kick back occurrences because when the hand guard is touched by the hand the kick back brake engages and the chain of the saw stops turning. The hand guard also protects you from flying debris that is generated by the handsaw. Flying debris like wood chips can damage your hand by cutting or bruising your skin. They can cause enough pain that the operator loses some of the control of the saw and injures themselves. A hand guard is a safety feature that should be mandatory on all power tools.

Kick Back Brake

Kick back is a term that describes what happens when a saw hits something like a hardened piece of wood that causes the bar to lift upwards. This causes the operator to jerk their hands backwards and serious injuries have occurred when people had a saw kick back.

The kick back brake feature will stop the chain from turning when the saw is forced to kick backwards. You cannot prevent a saw from ever kicking up, but you can help to prevent injury by having a saw with a kick back feature that stops the chain when this occurs.

Oregon Bar and Chain

Oregon actually makes one of the highest quality bars and chains for chainsaws. The Oregon manufacturers make bars and chains that are harder and they last twice as long as any other bar and chain. These bars and chains cost more than other brands because of their high quality and craftsmanship. One of the reasons I chose this 14 Amp Electric Chain Saw was because it came with an Oregon bar and chain on it.

Pros

  • Comes with an Oregon bar and chain
  • Eighteen inch bar
  • Automatic oiler
  • Hand guard
  • Kick back brake
  • Light weight
  • No harmful emissions
  • Does not need mixed fuel to operate
  • Fully assembled
  • affordable

Cons

  • This appliance has the old style chain tension screw that is located close to the saw housing. This type of tension adjustment is not as easy to adjust as the newer models that require no tools to make the adjustment.

Final Thoughts

I would prefer to have this 14 Amp Electric Chain Saw come with the carry case and file that you would need to protect it from damage, and to keep the chain sharp and ready to use. Unfortunately it does not come with these items, but you can purchase these items separately for use with this saw.

The operator of any chainsaw should be wearing protective eyewear, and this eyewear is also sold separately from the appliance. I recommend that you buy a pair of protective goggles that fit snugly against your face so that sawdust, and other debris cannot get into your eyes.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
